I'd have thought they'd have problems with trademark infringement though if it were an own formulation.

the owner of Etac has developed other brands in the past coincidently with perfume added Etac was another of his incarnations ,this is Etac for sure just a different way of selling it although for anyone not aware of Etac or the Grex conection im wondering where the technical support aftersales infrastructer is with Grex PS ,Etac have always to great degrea relied on artists to promote sell and service the product ,the list of Grex dealers doesnt read like a who,s who of airbrushing

im sure this will add some confusion in regards to the product especialy as Grex seem on the face of their press release to be claiming it as onother of thier "cutting edge" developments

Here is a reply I got directly from Grex US regarding the paint.

Quote:

Hello John,

Thank you for your interest in our products. Private Stock is manufactured by ETAC and is the same product of the same name. Grex has partnered with ETAC to distribute Private Stock in North America. A premium airbrush line must be complemented by a premium airbrush color. Because you are located in England, please contact ETAC Europe at http://etac-europe.com/ for your inquiries regarding Private Stock.

Regards,
Raymond

Didn't I say this already?

As far as confusion goes this is as clear as anything. Using the same terminology or descriptions is a normal thing to do for any company. You've also got to remember that Grex is geared up for a different type of market and this is how they are venturing into fine art and custom painting.

Paul, if you think what they are doing is confusing I'd suggest you to contact Raymond at Grex and Bill at E'tac whom I know that you know well and they'll clarify things further if required. I still go back to my original point of Iwata/Medea. Why is it this when they clearl make different products but the same names and branding are used on the all the products. I don't forsee however E'tac branded airbrushes although you never know!

Cheers
Gordon
PS Being out of this now this is merely my opinion, although I still use both Grex and E'tac products and can't fault any of them.

no its not confusing for those who know just like wicked and autoborne being the same paint in all but pigment range however for those not educated to the facts the AB wicked thing gets confusing as well
some folk may well think they are buying another brand of paint entirely as Grex dont make any mention of Etac ,they do go a little further in fact and everything they do say[not withstanding Johns responce from Grex] would lead one to believe it was a Grex product developed by them

thats where i feel some confusion would be ,especialy if a price differential arises in the same way has happened with wicked and autoborne which left some folk feeling a little cheated and others feeling like they made a shrewd buy

it may well be no price differential arises but one Grex dealer is already discounting Grex PS

i for one always advise buying wicked over autoborne where the price is a factor ,same as the wicked flash reducer which is exactly the same as the AA 4011 but cheaper ,even Dennis thier Chemist advises the same

how they operate and sell is up to them and theres nothing essentaily wrong here just a potential for confusion as with so many other rebranded products ,some will stay the same price some will not like the H&S airbrushes Sata sell
do i believe i have a revell airbrush made by revell or do i actualy own a badger ??

just one final note and im done ,Etac has a community of experianced users by way of its forum and retailers ,anyone Buying "Grex private stock" may never be aware of this ,hence my question regarding the technical support that Grex may have to put in place to help what are essentialy Etac users who could if they only knew go direct to the forum with its rich source of information regarding the whole system

I do believe after reading their original statement again regarding Grex private stock that it is missleading and leaves the viewer believing this it is in fact a new product. Grex should have made it more clearly known in this statement that in fact it is merely a result of the merging of Grex and Etac and a rebranding of Etac's private stock, NOT a new formular developed by themselves which it leads viewers to think it is.
Just my opinion :D
