Hacky...you just paint EXACTLY what you see in the EXACT proportions. David is a master at detail...was a joy and tons of fun painting with my friend! Next year mate we'll do it again either here with us or I'll come over there again for Shandy, paella and JAMON!!! |

So great David - Us amateurs always have questions for Rock Stars like yourself: Do you do any masking in a piece like this (either hard or handheld/freehand/loose cut stencils)??? or do you just blast away freehand? How many hours in a detailed pieces such as this one? Are you doing this piece initially for yourself to sell later - or is it a commissioned piece already? -- Always nice to get blown away once in a while.. it keeps us on our toes.. thank you for sharing! Regards Bennco |

Thank you Girl/Guys Hasey, You always have kind words towards my work it is much appreciated. hacky, As my good friend Kat (paint sister ) has already said I just paint what I see no more nor less.Kat, I'm itching to have some more fun with you (in fact we are all expecting it). Bennco, Thank you. I'm sorry to say that I'm no Rock Star in fact I'm an Amateur one with a lot of experience but still an amateur cos I don't earn a living by painting yet maybe some day I'll be able to. Right now I'm a mare mortal like you/girls/ guys & I hope to be a mare mortal till I die On a piece like this the first rule is not to count hours. The only thing that matters is the final picture. (I don't have all that much time just a few spare hours a day and some days I don't have time at all). This piece is for my own and I hope to be able to produce prints to sell. As for masking I'm pretty bad using masks or shields. I find the edges too sharp. I might use a shield here or there but I go freehand as much as I can. In this piece the only thing masked was the wall (left side) everything else has been done with my Iwata CM-SB and My Wicked colors. You can play music but it's optional David :ph43r:

I will echo what David said about NOT counting hours/minutes. Unless your going to do a time equals money thing, then count but for extremely detailed pieces like these, they can literally take months to complete. You work on them here and there and walk away when tired. I have a painting I am working on now and have been for about 6 weeks. Big canvas. I have one subject in the foreground that has buggering me crazy but today I got it right...I could have called it good but it wasn't so I kept at it. Almost done and now is about tweaking and popping the lights in it. In the end it is about having patience and enjoying the act of painting for pleasure. Its up to the painting to decide really, it is done when it decides and you agree with it...its a gut thing... |
