well i must say autoborne turned me around as far as AA products and i real havent got any issues with it ,the only AA i have is the latest W batch which i am finding comparable with autoborne

i started off with waterbased products for my artwork and to be honest it took me more time to get to grips with the paints than to learn how to airbrush ,i can readily understand why some folk just wont entertain them as they can be frustrating and yes the older AA ranges will have put some folk off permenantly ,i think AA know that and have been building bridges via product improvements for a while now to put that behind them
still if you dont like em you dont like em and at the end of the day its about the art not the product

Stu your astra aint going to hit a 1000mph mate

clear delam would be the issue at those speeds especialy if the clear was chipped or scratched IE compromised in some way but if it has locked into the AA correctly [slow activators etc] i cant see an issue

actualy for all the issues AA has had over the years clear delamination isnt one i have heard from folk ,i presume it has happened as it can with any system ,i have had it happen on paintjobs and i know full well i cleared well with time windows etc

im the same i avoid masking if at all possible , i must say i have tested autoborne by burnishing the tape down with my thumbnail and its held great but under normal circumsizes i do the jeans trick and get the tape off ASAP ,i would advise this even on solvent base as even that isnt imune to problems especialy when highly reduced for artwork as the binders can get compromised

the other thing i will do is sand between coats with some abralon 1000 as a safety net for adhesion and to get rid of any discreps

Mate, most of us were put off by the problems we were having with the paint, but more so with the fact that a 'new and improved' version came out promising more every few months, so relieving us of our 'hard earned', and then having no discernable difference, and all the same problems! We would then buy that, have the same problems, and a couple of months later........AA are bringing out a 'new and improved' version!!!!

I understand that products are getting refined all the time, but I just DON'T see the advantages over other systems!

I seem to have the same problems all the time even with the autoborne (admittedly, the two small samples I've got have hardly been touched), and if I can use other waterbased systems effectively, and with none of the AA drama's, then I know where my monies going, unfortunately.

I want to like it, I really do, but am not prepared to spend more of my money on another bottle to prop up my wonky table. Maybe when there hasn't been a 'new release' from AA in a while, I'll give the range another shot, but until then............................................

Looking at the other comments on this thread, I'm not alone!!

Feel free to pass these comments on to Dennis. These are NOT meant in any way to be a slagging off off AA, just my own personal views on the product! And anyway, hey what do I know!! :D :D :D

Clive i fully understand and Dennis knew the problems when he first introdued himself to everyone on airbrush .comedy ,i gave him AA the biggest slagging off of all which is when he started sending me samples of all the updated products etc

anyways up the new candy arrived this afternoon ,i cant say too much as they are something totaly new and different to anything AA as produced before ,they havent even got AA lables ,it looks like Dennis printed some stickers off his inkjet

i have had one little tiny spray out over some chrome film ,they dont look like they will suffer migration problems and the tangerine i sprayed out looks nice and strong

Don't get me wrong Paul, I would use it if I could get it here in Canada. Anywhere here that stocks are not introducing any of the new products, even though they have heard they are very good. So I feel forced to use another system. I have been really pleased with some of the results I have had lately with AA. I think they should produce a better how to use it DVD. But hey, that is another matter.

As for clearing it, I just went in with 3 REALLY wet coats over some AA... Worked great! I have gone a little over the top and need to loose a few runs :D

Jeff i will use anything that gets the job done ,Dennis has always known im a multi product user and other than i get first hand info and samples i dont sell it or get paid to promote it ,what im saying is im not biased towards any particular product other than if it works OK for me i will say so ,Stu has posted problems and he doese sell the stuff

we are all different and go by what we like or dislike ,what works or doesnt work for us and i for one apreciate that not everyone is going to like everything i do and vise verse

i am surpised the new products arent available in Canada though as Crosseyed AKA Blake Macully is well into them ,maybe it would be worth you contacting him as im sure he must be getting the latest stuff as he is one of thier biggest artists

Tis true - I would never sell something that I didnt beleive in, AA works fine so long as you learn to use it and give it time to work for your style of painting.

I love HOK for primer, base and clear but rarely airbrush with it.

We are proud as artists if we grow and develop and improve on every piece of work we do so why shouldnt it be any different for a company who are passionate about producing constantly evolving products and upping the bar, helping us create better artwork?

If all the answers were already found the world would be very boring.

For me, if there is no challenge, there is no fun! ;)

i have practice panel in my art room that is all AA products ,its a tru fire piece i mess around with and its been in progress for months ,as such it needed to be done in the thinest of layers ,i went up to it earlier and burnished some 3m tape down with my thumb and it wouldnt budge even when i pulled it off at a more fierce angle than i would normaly with any paint system

it is definatly a combination of prep and fine layers dried between coats that give the most robust results ,in fact one of my most memorable failurs delam wise was with Etac not AA and it realy pissed me off as the liquitex and comart i also used stuck like shit to blanket to the same job ,i got slammed over on etacoligy and thier in house artist got extemly shitty with me ,like i dont know how to sand a feckin helmet after 28 years of doing the sodding job

anyway back to these candies ,hopefully Stu has got his as well but i have had a little more of play with these and they are not anything like you would expect of any AA product ,these are a totaly new concept ,the depth of colour on the tangerine and wild cherry i have sprayed is realy intense even shot through a 0.2 airbrush ,no beading AKA pigment migration onto plastic type chrome film just a solid field of even colour

i will make my next progect a candy test piece and show the results ASAP

these are not anything at all like any other AA product they arent an adaptation of anything they currently do and certain aspects will make them a stand alone product ,i cant say much more as thier actual makeup is an AA secret i cant divulge untill the marketing date aproaches
