sorry to step in on yer thread slightly jeff but paul, can you recommend somewhere to get/where do you get your activated carbon from? also, is the spun polyester the same as that green n white layered filter material? sort of like the fiberglass strands type stuff that expands? if you know what i mean. haha |

also, any idea on how much you need to fill a certain area? like you mentioned a teachest size box. as ive just come across a place selling it and its in kilos, so just wondered how much space it takes up. i guess this depends on what the active carbon was produced from does it? according to what i read on there site.. ''Almost any carbonaceous material can be used to create activated carbon such as coconut shells, wood or coal. Our products are produced from bituminous coal. This is first heated in an oxygen void environment to avoid burning and to remove the volatile components of the coal before being activated in a controlled environment of oxygen and steam. The result is activated carbon which can then be put to a variety of uses'' |

there are bulk suppliers on ebay or on the net, quality can vary dramaticly as can wieght to volume ,the heaver ones are usualy best ,what you need is for all the air to pass through the carbon so you can build slim particians and fill those with carbon rather than try to fill a complete tea chest full of the stuff ,you prefilter should stop most of the actual material the carbon is for fumes not particulate matter check out the surface area to mass then compare weights ,this will give you good guide to quality Paul |
