Im still using first formula stuff in some instances mate and some of it is fine and some of it needs a bloody good shake and strain before it goes in your airbrush. You can see if it needs a damn good shake as you get what looks like trans base in the top of the bottle and the colour at the bottom.

Shake for ages and do the old tights trick over the neck of the bottle and you should be fine.

i have had fungal problems with 4011 reducer and it can happen with waterbased paint ,the main danger with very old bottles of anything is settlement of the pigments which can eventualy form a concretion at the bottom which wont remix easily and sometimes not at all

If oldish paint goes through the air brush without a problem, is it okay to use it or can the paint breakdown in someway after it has been cleared?

What form do the fungal problems take when you use 4011 reducer Paul?

Also I have some transparent base which is oldish and although it goes thro the airbrush it seems a bit thick, can it be thinned, would it still provide a protective film over artwork?

i have used old paint without problems however i wouldnt obligate myself to a definative answer ,plenty of fellow AA users have reported no problems useing paints that where over two years of age and i havent heard of failures due to old paint ,this isnt to say it cant happen

the fungal problem i had was due to the bottle being left open for some time and took the form of small round clumps ,sort fo greyish looking around a milimetre in diametre

Ive got buckets of trans base and the pot im currently using has gone a bit thicker than normal. Still sprays through a .3 airbrush with no probs but its def thicker than normal.

Ive been using that pot for the last couple of months and havent had a problem yet. Saying that though, guitars suffer less of "natures punishments" than bikes. Havent had any probs with the guitars ive done with it though ;)
