I've got some previously based and cleared panels to add some simple white grafix over parts of them. I would normally prep by flatting back/blocking with wet and dry, trouble is the current finish on these panels aint the best-little imperfections, lumps and bumps and i really cant run the risk of breaking thru to the (metallic) basecoat. Question is can I just scotch the panels instead of using wet and dry? Will this give me enough adhesion and would reclearing cover the marks left by the scotching? |

I've gone to scotching for prep! Found a top tip. Do it wet, and use a little Ajax powder, and it keeps the 'deeper' scratches you can occasionally get with scotchbrite away! Works great, but can get messy!!!!!! I use green pads for bases etc, and grey pads for everything else!! Clive

Grey are smoother buddy! Get mine from Fleabay! And I use both together. Wet the surface, sprinkle on some Ajax POWDER, and then scotch away, seems to work great, just needs a GOOD washdown afterwards!! ![]() Clive ![]() PS Should be a new helmet I used this on in the Gallery by the end of the week!! Obviously, still used 3200 grit Micromesh to finish the clear!! |

PS Abralon 1000 is a better option than scotch its light but actualy sands rather than just cuts ,you can use it either wet or dry and on DA its = to 2000 grade which which give you a superb very even finish to work on Paul |

Tried flatting back a lambretta front muddy with a mutton cloth and G-matt flatting paste, spent around 20/25 mins then cleaned it up/checked it. To be honest it still looks a little glossy for my liking. Think I need something with a bit more bite than the mutton cloth. Just waiting for the grey pads to get delivered and I'll give them a bash with the paste. Paul-dya think that maroon pads (x- fine apparently as opposed to xx fine grey pads) will be too harsh on clear/to re-clear, only asking cause I've got some here and can crack on if this is the case? |

red scotch is perfectly fine to use as long as you arent doing a metalic fade solid colours are ok over it as is clear ,you can spray clear and solid colours over old clear sanded with P600 it is only metalics and pearls that are an issue Paul |
