Blimey buddy!! AA Pearl Gold, Trans Red, Trans Orange (seems to be the worst offender!), with 4011 reducer at 3-4:1, blown at about 30 PSi!

Then I would lower pressure, then try less reducer. The Autobourne works much better than the trans AA. Just do not lay too much on.

I am using 50 50 mix at the moment at 30 psi, not for detail though! And it really is slowly and gently mist it on.

I got what were almost like fish-eyes in certain spots (Just can't remember if they were the same spots, but if I was a betting man, I'd say they were!!), nothing in the middle, just almost like a 'halo' of more intense colour around a pale spot!

I had something similar to this when I first tried it out. Seems it may have been layered on to heavy (which I tend to do...no patience) and possibly too much reducer. I've had to learn to, like Jeff said build it up very slowly in many coats. I'm still having trouble with that at times as I still want to get it on heavier than is allowed. I guess it's something you just have to program into yourself.

It actually happened to me on this laptop I'm currently doing

Just a quick update! The Fire helmet is no more!!!!!!

I went to touch it all up today, and scuffed one of the little patches and ended up with a biiiiiiig patch pretty much falling off, so it's now sanded all back awaiting a re-paint (after a short spell sitting forlornly at the bottom of the garden where it landed after a drop kick!! )!

i'm not familiar with AA or COMART but one thing I have found in doing layerd flames is you can have some adhesion issues with different brands/types of paints.

I had a similar faliure with some duplicolor brand automotive paints and HOK paints. Both are used for painting cars but the duplicolor stuff is pretty poor quality as I came to discover. It's basically wash your car dry really well and shoot stuff that must need to be redone whenever it peels off from a couple of washings.

For something like a helmet if you start with a urethane stay with urethane based paints. same with waterbased and laquer based.

also depending on the number of layers you go you may need to do a light scuff between layers

Man that sucks Clive. Seems to be an adhesion problem, I've never had that with AA or autoborne either unless I've overapplied it. Keep it uber-light and heatset often seems to do it for me.
I would also seal the basecoat with clear before doing any serious masking etc over it-just my tuppence worth fella ;)
