Stand Up - Sit Down Desk Link

This is something that really does interest me. I was talking to someone a few years ago about standing at a desk to work and he said, in the USA you could already buy one. At that time I had never heard of it before but now, with my health being number 1 priority due to my back and neck problems, this is incredibly important. I have spent almost every day from 8:30 - midnight or 1am at the PC for the last 3 weeks solid working on the website, I am feeling it today.

Also, when I am airbrushing, I much prefer to work standing too.

What are your thoughts?

I have to agree bud! But the principal is great. If you fancied standing after a couple of hrs sitting, just flick a switch! I like that.

If anyone wants to make me one - let me know how much then if it'll be cheaper than this baby!

Hehe, I was just thinking tho - would be a lot cheaper to get the desk built in MDF at a standing height and then . . . buy a bar stool! :)

You know what's funny Beej, I was at a Flea Market, or swap meet, market place, so many names, there's a office dealer there that sells new stuff, and he had one that had a foot switch on the legs. You press it down twice and raises up, you press and hold down to lower, I guess some kinda of hydrolic pump, but it seemed pretty smooth, he was selling that one for $149. But the thing is, I'm 6'1'', the table raised a little higher than my "Texas Lovehammer" if you know what I mean!! (not that high) :haha:
I think there were called global industrial????

They had one for an office and one for a workshop.
Just an idea, but if you feel like you need to be spoiled, then get the fancy electric one.

Beej, find yourself a desk yu like and can work on sitting then let me know how much travel you want it to have (how much to raise by) and I can fit a pair of linear motors to raise it electrically for you mate.

I did a similar thing for a mate a few weeks ago who wanted his 60" plasma screen to rise up out of it's cabinet so I rigged a couple of linear motors with pulleys and made a frame for the TV that had ancor points for steel cables and pullesy then roped it like a hydraulic lift 2:1 to make shifting the weight easier. Now his TV hides in it's box until he needs it, one click of the remote and up it comes :D

:Beej: it sounds like you need a Craftmatic bed m8 :D

i got a nice height adjustable rotating round dispaly stand from a charity shop last week if you look on the vespa WIP it is what i am useing to paint the parts on

i just spin the shell around rather than constantly walking around and tangling up the airline

i actualy thought it was thier dispaly stand but the lady said no its for sale £15
takes a bit of a push to get down but its soft action raise is great
