Hi all, Just been doing some more tests today with Medea, especially the yellow. Want you to be aware that you really need to test panel some colours before intercoating with any solvents as today (setting up a pallette of colours for the next job) I laid out a test spray of colours which I have available. The EFX doesn't budge under the intercoat clear (HOK) but the yellow and the red Medea pickled instantly quite badly. My opinion is that you really need to Top Coat the Medea to be 100% sure of no issues and you MUST do a sprayout test card. Medea covers excellent and the colours are vibrant but I think it must be the binder (which smells like rubber PVA) which is somehow reacting with the solvents in the clear. I did write to Jurek via email but no response yet and it would be great to hear from Giorgio on here (Stu, please tell him I will make him a VIP here if he wishes to contribute). To be fair, I did over-reduce the intercoat with medium reducer (to see if this would happen) and the Top Coat seems OK with tests I did previously. I think the yellow is one of the worst colours for this reaction issue. It needes that Medea Top Coat to ensure it will be OK as Top Coat is solvent-proof. In my opinion, Medea is excellent for a lot of artistic uses but if you're looking for durability by covering directly with clears over the paint itself please make sure you test the paint before you go the whole way on a custom job and find out at the very end that something can go wrong. In this test I sat EFX 500 and Auto Air Transparent Red alongside the Medea and nothing happened on those colours at all. This was with Intercoat Clear flooded directly over with an Iwata Kustom CS (Eclipse). Try some tests yourself and please post the results. I have used the Top Coat over Medea and EFX 500, Private Stock and Auto Air and THEN intercoated and had no problems at all, this was using the Medea Opaque White and Tinting white. ![]() |

Beej, please tell me more about this Medea clear base, Is it better than the AA trans base? I think you said it dries to a sort of shiney finish, is it OK to sand? And I am sure it is still waterbased? Please let us know mate. Jeff |

Hi jeff, Yes it is waterbased and yes you can sand it fine. It dries like an intercoat, glossy.

Its the Medea Textile Top Coat 2oz (56ml) you want Jeff. They have just changed the bottles over and the new stuff will be coming out in dropper bottles for easier dispensing. You can get this in 2oz, 4oz and 16oz. Beej - Will speak to Giorgio asap bud, is scheduled for a portrait class in the next couple of weeks so will collar him then. Im sure he'd love to contribute though! No one knows more about this paint than him! Stu

Just a quickee update on the Medea Top Coat: I've had to take it off the site for the mo as it's being re-formulated and re-released in the USA so it's a bit hard to get at the moment. Something to do with the ingredients so I'll keep you posted . . I hope this doesn't mean it's going to be different as it's a great product, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Actually Svee it may well do. I was in the dark about this and wouldn't have had the item readily available for sale if I had known. To be fair to the guys here in the UK tho, they only just found out from the USA so I am down the line a bit. Rest assured m8, I ILL get you some in the next week because if we can';t get Stu to help I am sure Giorgio or Jurek himself (or another distributor) can let us have some and failing that mate, I'll send you mine ![]() As soon as I know what's happening commercially with it, I'll let you know but just as a side note, the PolEtac is VERY similar stuff and also Etac are bringing out a new product called H2UrO which will be a water-based urethane lock down clear. More ab out that from Bill himself soon.
