well here we go, this is an idea I've been wanting to paint for ages now but haven't had the confidence, but after doing that big painting for the halloween compo and pulling it of I've got a bit more confidence and as I'm now completely hooked on doing big paintings I went out and bought a 8ft/4ft sheet of MDF and got cracking, its going to be a long haul as I've only got the evenings and I'm planning to put a lot of detail in but i thought I'd post pictures of it here, So here's my sketch just to get my head round it and heres my first evenings work and I'll add more when i feel I've progressed enough |

That looks like one sweet design mate. Know what you mean about painting big things, after i did that Mr. Incredible im totally hooked on murals. The bigger the better. I already have permission from Becks to paint the huge expanse above our stairs with something. Just need time to do it now lol. Keep us posted with progress on this one mate

had time to do a bit more tonight, so thats the basic layout done, now i can get cracking on the really fun bit, putting in all the detail and darkening the whole thing down . gunna have to re-do the arms though, bit of a cock-up |

Dan, make the front most arm shorter and angle more astute so 'foreshorten' it by raising up and swing it toward the viewer, I think that would work better as it leads your eye out of the image. The chains lead you in real nice, you could even blurr those out of focus for added depth well with subtle airbrushing but the arm looks out of place for the composition and throws your vision down. Perhaps take it up and have it grappling at the chain or behind it? I don't think it will kill the perspective sketch you drew in. I fooking LOVE those mental-eyed skulls you do bro . . is that your idea/design (sorry to ask as I am almost sure they are ) it's ALL good man.

I bloody hope so but I do worry myself sometimes, for example in the middle of the painting behind the fish is a baby marionette blowing bubbles and I managed to convince myself I'd sub-conciously nicked the image from a Patrick Woodroff painting and had to go and look through both the books of his I've got untill I'd satisfied myself otherwise  and with the halloween painting, halfway through I started getting real bad de-ja-vue about the main caracter and conviced myself I'd lifted him from 'bob the builder' |

LOL Patrick Woodroffe eh, one of my very fave all-time artists and he exhibited in this part of the world a few yrs ago and I missed it! My favourite art book in my collection (which I think someone knicked a few yrs ago as I can't find the chuffin thing!) was 'A Closer Look at . .' and I looked at it closely many, many times. Beautiful work, the guy is a genius. If anyone finds that book for sale (Paper Tiger I think) then let me know as I can't find it anywhere and I have had it for years until recently.Nice work Dan . .
