oooooh guess what happned to me today... The MD at work cam up to me and said "Ere Al, can you paint cardboard cutouts" To which i said yes and to cut a long story short he has asked me to paint some Pixar characters for his 3 year old sons bedroom on boards but life size. First one is Mr Incredible, i will be starting it at 6am on Monday morning cos i have to go into work at stupid O'clock to babysit the cleaner every morning lol. The chipboard panel i have sat at work waiting for me measures 117cm wide and 178cm tall. Its all primed and ready to roll. He decided on chipboard rather than cardboard cos he wants them to last. Looking forward to doing this, we stock projectors at work so i can take in my laptop and "borrow" a projector for a sec to trace the image down. The boss also said that if he likes this one he wants a shed load of em done *yippee* Still have no clue how much to quote him for it though, money is no object to this guy. His toddler has a loft conversion for a bedroom, leather miniature sofa (custom made) and a 50" plasma screen on his wall. He makes me sick ROFLMAO  Anyways, watch this space for some progress pics with a very knackered looking me in them lol |

Hang on.... Are you painting these at work? During work hours? Brilliant if you are :D. I persuaded my office they should have a digital photo frame a couple of years back. So they let me mod an old laptop into one. I never got to finish as we got stupid busy, but it was great to do a hobby at work and get paid for it. I know painting to you isnt really a hobby any more, but still, the sentiment is the same as your not doing your everyday grind so to speak. If this is the case then i guess just asking for materials, and "a drink" would be fairest. He is already paying for your time really. Plus a good opportunity to earn brownie points if ever you need any. |

Yeah i will be doing it between 6 and 9am every day at work. I only get paid to work from 9-5:30 though. Its a deal i struck up with my boss last year... They needed someone to go in at 6am every day to let the cleaner in and stay with her so she wasnt alone (we have been targeted by robbers twice last year, same people too) and i needed a couple of weeks off for the birth of my daughter over chrimbo but because of a very nasty brain swelling illness Becky had earlier in the year i had used up all my holiday. So my boss said that if i agree to go in at 6 and just "be there" they would give me 3 weeks off (fully paid) for little Kaitlyns's birth. So between 6 and 9 every day i sit at my pc at work and catch up with emails, dabble in photoshop, and now i will be airbrushing too lol

what a cool job! characters like that really lend themselves to the airbrush medium I would think. I have no idea what to charge but it sound like a good idea to keep track of the time and come up with a fee when you're done. |
